I'm renaming my novel Killoyle Wine and CheeseThe Maladjusted Terrorist. Big deal, eh? No, but to those few who know of it, the name "Killoyle" in the title is too specific a reference to my other novel of that name, especially to the bean counters at the publishing houses who track sales and exert a heavy inlfuence on the decisions of the acquisitions departments. And anyway, this book's more of a character study than an evocation of place, and the new title is an apt description of Ferdia Quain, the hero: he's the ex-archivist of the now-disbanded Provisional IRA, you see, and all he wants is to raise a little capital to open a wine and cheese shop. Others won't let him, but he has no idea how to deal with them, or the new circumstances of his life; and we're off to the races.
So far, it's only been published in German (twice). Within a year, one way or another, it will have found a home in its native tongue, I swear it.
